2007 — 20 August: "Monday morning"

Not brilliant overnight sleeping, but now breakfast and the morning meds routine are complete. Time to hit the road: repeat prescriptions and a spot of banking/shopping. See you later! In time, I trust, to catch Alexander Korda's Lady Hamilton on the box at 12:40.

Films made 66 years ago do not always age well, just like the rest of us I guess. So, we settled for an afternoon nap to settle the soup and sandwiches (and strawberries) and then it was time to recommence telephonic battle with Mrs Old Bank, who is proving remarkably tardy in closing my account and transferring the balance to Mr New Bank.

On 31st July we managed to close an account in approximately five minutes by physically turning up at the bank. The young lad I spoke to at the same bank today (on the phone) admitted it might just be quicker to write a cheque for the balance to myself and physically pay it in at the new bank. Head Offices, it seems, not only allow themselves 28 days to do things that can be done in five minutes, but they are also not, it seems, where organisational bureaucracies locate their brains.

Gentle toddles

Ease the pain somewhat, suggesting some of it may be (disused) muscles. But one cannot toddle forever without getting tired and then needing to lie down. Then the cycle starts again. This is a wearisome process. By the way, if you're reading this Big Bro, I downed my first dose of "Berocca" even though its tag line "for hectic lifestyles" is more aligned with yours than mine at the moment! But it tasted good.

One more day...

And then we kick off Chemo cycle #3 back in the Chalybeate on the Wednesday morning. Somebody better remind me to buy a cucumber tomorrow, by the way. And we had the first half of the lamb shank today (that arrived via the Interweb thingy last week). Very nice it was, too. Sorry if I've just offended vegetarian readers, but it does take all sorts, as dear ol' Dad used to remind me. (I wondered initially why he kept banging on about my liquorice sweets, but eventually the penny dropped.)

Apart from the crossword puzzle, then, and the Korda film, it's not been too bad a day, though pain has hovered in the background on and off. (The iced gel packs are very helpful in that regard.) And sotobed, as it were. Good night!
