2016 — 26 May: Thursday

Another sunny but chilly early start. I shall resume my non-Vorkosigan as it's too early to nip out and top-up the foody cupboard, though I shall have to do so ahead of today's lunch date.

I'm listening, again, to WOMAD 2013 "live" (courtesy of the rejuvenated NUC, and back running good ol' VLC1). I noticed for the first time yesterday, by the way, that powering it on without a wired connection does at least offer the possibility of using its built-in Wi-Fi. It also seems more open now to the possible use of its SD card slot, too. Either the Intel BIOS elves have been busy or I was far too dopey last time I was picking my cautious way through their Visual BIOS menus.

It's fair to say the NUC is underused (or, at least, not stretched) by so far using it just as an audio player. Give it time. Now that I've put Kodi on it I expect video will come into play...

Everyone? Really?

Perhaps it's time to get serious about buying a copy of HO Mounce's book "Wittgenstein"!

Ludwig Wittgenstein, as everyone knows, abandoned philosophy after publishing his celebrated Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus in 1921. He took up gardening instead, in a monastic community on the outskirts of Vienna, where he camped out for a few months in a toolshed.

Haven't been there, haven't done that :-)

This looks more to my taste. And my chum Brian should enjoy this.

"Perhaps"...

... ponders he, reading (for the first time, only three months later than others) about a DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 adapter, "this may let me hook up all three of my PCs to the 34" Dell?" (Recall, the NUC's DP output and the Dell's DP input can only agree to differ. Whereas neither BlackBeast Mk III nor Skylark have any trouble with their DP outputs to the Dell's two DP inputs.)

Lunch...

... at the Greyhound Thai place in Broughton was as tasty as it ever is. Yum. [Pause] But the trouble is, even the most sumptuous and tasty of lunches tends to find you hungry again by the time the early evening trundles around. It's now 18:45 and I'm a mite peckish. As is yesterday's feline visitor, who just showed up again, "meeped" hopefully at me a few times, and then trotted off presumably to find some more fruitful supplier of food. Can't blame a cat for trying.

Meanwhile...

... I see the Trump now has enough supporters to claim the Republican Party nomination. By a margin of one delegate. This is truly a mad world. I found an interesting perspective here.

The more...

... I use Ubuntu, I'm afraid the more I find I prefer Mint.

Footnote

1  A lot less fuss than either Clementine or Kodi when just playing a single two-hour music file. Apparently the VLC developers were quite shocked to discover how many of their users only use VLC for playing audio files. (Which it does very well, I might add.)
