2012 — 8 November: Thursday
I have to admit1 my opinion of Prometheus is now somewhat higher. That doesn't mean I'm going to watch it again tonight, though, as I'm drooping rapidly. G'night.
Well, the world still seems to be spinning on its axis. My more immediate concern is "where do we go for lunch?" It's good to have a hobby. [Pause] The new "Snakefarm" album is very enjoyable, by the way. It has currently displaced BBC Radio 3 as my morning listening while I idly contemplate a spot of breakfast.
Three years...
... have now elapsed since I last read this essay which was recently updated by its author, I notice. Even longer has elapsed since I mentioned one of my favourite Traffic tracks. Mind you, to listen to it (as I'm doing right now) is to be transported instantly back to the bed and breakfast place I stayed in, in Windsor, in February 1974. It was part of my musical accompaniment to my evening coding exercises while I was becoming adept at programming an ICL 1900 Series mainframe in its low-level language. Crikey, this was even before I met Christa!
Wonder of wonders. The sun has appeared. It's 10:32 and looks like turning into a nice day.
We opted for...
... the reliable "Bridge" at Shawford, purveyors of venison burgers to the masses. Very nice, too. But not nice to see how the daylight is disappearing and the temperature dropping. It's only 15:11, too. At Len's sensible suggestion, I'm going to outfit my copy of Firefox with "Flash blocker" and resume browsing with it until Adobe sorts out its plug-in act... [Pause]
Pah, if only it were that simple! [Pause] It actually is. When all else fails, use Adobe's own Flash uninstaller to nuke the rotten pile of kak, then say to yourself "I didn't want to run Flash in any case." Sorted.
Time for some moving pixels on different technology, methinks. [Pause] "New in town" was both utterly predictable and ridiculously enjoyable. And the documentary extra on the trials and tribulations of filming in winter in Winnipeg was, if anything, even funnier. Ms Zellweger has a gift for physical comedy.
I hafta say...
... Win8's Media Player is almost as fancy as the iMac's equivalent. Though I've yet to see a visualisation that matches what goes on in my head when I listen to music. I did once buy a kit and assemble one of those electronic sound-to-light converters in the mid-70s. Not a success, though.
