2012 — 24 March: Saturday

I don't have to jump through hoops for job interviewers any more. Mind you, when I did, I was offered every job I was actually interviewed for (we won't count the one in the BBC for a Corporate speechwriter — which would probably have driven me nuts in any case — as it evaporated in a re-org before the question of an interview even arose).

I did.1

Meanwhile, Big Bro has responded to the Christchurch story I sent him overnight, thereby helping to confirm (at least) one essential difference between us. His proposed acquisition of an AKA-47 (perhaps he could buy the spare one from my ex-neighbour?) suggests he has some wish to survive the collapse of his local civilisation. I don't. We each have our reasons, of course.

Only in the world...

... of the iMac, possibly. Click the pic to see where I found these cable guys:

Today's yummy "lemonses" (it is, after all, 11:32, and I woke up about six hours ago so I'm feeling peckish) is one of the four cinnamon Hot Cross buns I bought on an impulse a while ago and then stuffed into my freezer. Good choice. Meanwhile, without much conscious thought, I've just realised that the Saturday morning zany stuff that Peter Serafinowicz has been doing for the past few weeks is actually rather enjoyable. Another good choice. There's not much I don't like about BBC 6Music.

Oops

I've just clicked 'close' instead of 'minimise' on the Disk Management window a mere 27% through the formatting of what used to be a network backup drive. I thought, having deleted all the Linux partitions (volumes, according to Win7) on it, I'd reformat it properly, rather than just doing a so-called quick format, and I have to say I'd forgotten quite how slow that process is when the drive is 1TB. Still, when I fired up the utility again I was pleased to see that the task was still chugging away and no harm seems to have been done.

That, and the fact that it's now 15:06, has to be worth a cuppa, don't you agree?

94%, and counting

Like I said, a full disk format is tediously slow. It's now 20:58 and we've arranged an early walk for tomorrow. (Assuming the change to 'Summer' time doesn't screw things up too badly.) Meanwhile, I've been reading, and exploring more of the unfamilar music that used to live on the troublesome disk. It's not all to my taste, but a lot of it is mighty fine. I'm currently enjoying Nick Cave.

Alas! Murphy's Law ensures that the disk, despite formatting perfectly, provokes a 'SMART' error that stops BlackBeast from getting into Win7. I should have known better. Bah, humbug. I'm off to bed.
