2011 — 28 October: Friday
Two questions:
- How did it sneak past midnight? Something to do with being engrossed, I guess.
- Why did my Humax Foxsat satellite box switch off1 at midnight? I never asked it to.
Never mind. That's enough for one day, even though Pete Townshend is chattering amiably away on BBC 6Music. G'night.
Returning consciousness brings...
... a further question. What's Gideon Coe doing hosting the 6Music breakfast show? But who cares? He plays fabulous music and has an amusing line in chatter, rather less self-absorbed than a certain one-time member of The Who.
It's 09:25 and the sun appears to be shining. There's some supplies shopping ahead of me this morning (if I want to do any more fresh-stuff eating this weekend), plus a couple of local visits. Not to mention the next burst of Kermode film reviews.
Contemplating the...
... two (or more?) items I forgot to buy, I find myself wondering whether the time and effort saved by not making the endless shopping lists that Christa favoured is outweighed by the occasional extra trip needed to rectify my errors.
Contemplating the...
... 50% pay rises since last year of some of the UK's "top" bosses, I find myself wondering whether hanging is actually too good for them. I just heard a soundbite from one of them; in essence, he said "whether you like it or not, the comparison is with non-UK enterprises". Or "suck it up, little people." The fact that the high-worth individual heads a major marketing agency, and thus has a completely worthless job,2 mildly comforts me as I look forward to the next tiny pension payment due to trickle down into my bank account.
Now, where's that stale crust and rock-hard cheese rind I was saving for my breakfast? And this delightful tale can serve as the icing on the crumb of cake:
Do you realise that...
... after this weekend, the clock in my car is going to be wrong for the next half year? (The hi-tech distortion field around Technology Towers doesn't extend as far as the garage, alas. Heck, I couldn't even get my second Humax satellite receiver to behave itself, so it's been extirpated once again. Its lights were on, but nobody seemed to be in.)
Speaking of light, I've also been browsing some of the LED light bulbs now available. They're even dimmable. Cool. (Link.)
I'm getting hungry (again). But then, it is 18:25 so I'm allowed.
