2011 — 12 August: Friday

There's a great deal to be said1 in favour of MP3 serendipity. Having been sent an "Iron & Wine" track used over the closing credits of the film "In Good Company" — which, ironically, I'd never heard because I stopped the playback as the credits started — I scoured my little collection, finding only one further track (in two variations) by this group:

Music

I thought the group sounded familiar; they are featured on the first "Twilight" vampire film (not to be confused with the excellent Robert Benton film of the same title from 1998).

Anyhowsoever, that's how I now find myself listening to a classic about hating to get up in the morning :-)

I'm glad I decided...

... to nip out to Comet before lunch to give their portable external hard drive shelf a once-over. I picked up a 1TB USB2 Western Digital2 for a mere £60 with the obligatory one penny in change. Then, having tired of following a learner driver, I diverted slightly to swing by Asda:

BDs and DVD

I risked £3 on the duplicate DVD of "Doc Hollywood" — the delightful Michael Caton-Jones film I first had on VHS and then LaserDisc — because the small print suggested it was 1.85:1 widescreen. My existing NTSC DVD is 4:3 and every time I've looked I've so far failed to find any sign of a non-pan&scan edition. Happily, this latest DVD (for which I had to select "Australian" as the language) is indeed widescreen. Excellent. Just as dear ol' Dad used to say: "Everything comes to he who waits."

The Russell Crowe looked promising, and it will be interesting to compare Rhys Ifans playing Howard Marks with the real thing. There are more items in the input hopper, as both Mr Postie and Mr Parcel Force have dropped by to say "Hi". But I'll need another cuppa first.

Well...

... I live in hope that I'll feel better tomorrow than I do this evening. I've got up purely to do the "curtains and blinds" round and am about to call it a day. It's 22:09 and I'm off back to bed. G'night!

Footnotes

1  In this house, at least.
2  Having put a couple of test files and directories on it, I've just confirmed it will do very nicely for my Tablet PC's extra legroom. Said Tablet is perfectly cool with NTFS, by the way.
