2011 — 4 February: Friday

Yes, I know that 06:14 is no sort of time to be waking up, let alone getting up, but (on the other hand) what could be nicer than a nice, hot cuppa and a few chapters of my Armistead Maupin while the rest of the world1 hereabouts is getting ready for work?

Wonder of wonders, it also means I get to put out my crate of accumulated glass bottles in time for its monthly collection. Last time I managed that was about half a year ago, but the thing is still only 25% full or less.

It's 07:52 and dull grey but mostly dry out there. Yesterday was definitely the better day for our walk. [Pause] I've never been a fan of lottery scratch cards — it's bad enough having to queue while others have their flutter — but after reading this I'm even less keen. [Pause] Now why do you suppose this Pentax info makes no mention of the manufacturer of its CCD image sensor? (Kodak.)

My first-ever drive...

... in a different car is safely over, having just whisked the delivery chap down to the railway station so he can get to his next gig. I like it so far. Incredibly quiet, and rather higher-tech. I shall read the manual while I wait for the chaps to come and remove my battered Yaris. And get me some breakfast — it's 09:43 already. Still dull and grey out there. [Pause] Right. I'm once again a one-car chap. It's 10:50 — where shall I go for lunch? :-)

Later

Lunch was at Loomie's, which gave me a chance to get used to the hybrid behaviour. I could get very used to it — it's good fun. Right. Time to nip over to Roger and Eileen for a cuppa. It's 15:43 and still dull and grey out there. Windy, too. [Pause] And back again at 18:26 in time to start thinking about my evening meal and some entertainment options. What a Life, heh?

It occurs to me that Christa never drove a hybrid car. Mind you, I don't think she ever went into a bikers' café either, but I think she'd have enjoyed both experiences.

The BBC Radio 5 film review podcast is as engaging as ever. I didn't know Crispin Glover keeps an unusual collection of wax diseased eyes on display in his living room.

Sigh

As I only discovered during Wednesday's trip down to Soton...
