2010 — 2 May: Sunday
Make that three large wasps looking to settle themselves in the study at various points — just inadvertently squished the latest underfoot; good job I had something on my feet. Grrr. Rumour has it this is a Bank Holiday weekend; it certainly sounds as if it's been a bit chaotic on the roads. But it's time for some sleep, and perhaps the hope of some overnight (server) inspiration. Aah, the joy of software.
sudo shutdown -h now
Ring any bells? G'night.
This won't do...
... I mean, it's 10:09 and I'm still jim-jammed and cuppa-less. Gloomy out there, but no rain apparent yet. Breakfast?
I have to say, the thought of voting for this 'lady' is a highly dubious proposition. UK general elections really do bring out the best in people, don't they? Power must be a very powerful drug. Yet it leaves me stone cold.
Is there honey still for tea?
Did you know we have a National Bee Unit? And that CCD doesn't just stand for charge coupled device? Scary stuff.
An interesting variant...
... of the long-running "Desert Island Discs". It's the playlist on board Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, taking human music to the edge of the solar system. A committee chaired by Carl Sagan, heh? (A committee is a cul-de-sac down which ideas are lured and then quietly strangled, according to Sir Barnett Cocks.)
Back in 1984...
... Big Bro was over here on a flying visit. I see I was still in the habit of wearing a tie, quarter of a century ago. I'd recently replaced the net curtains with reflective solar film — at least one set of neighbours hated this as they felt it made the house look "blank-eyed". That didn't worry us:
It's 13:14 and has been raining on and off for the last hour or so. I've arranged an evening of video over in Winchester. Tonight's programme will include the 2005 variant of "Pride and Prejudice" directed by Joe Wright. Five years old already. Amazing. (Thanks to IMDB, of course, I now know that Mr Wright also directed some of "Bob and Rose" as well as the excellent "The Soloist" which Mike and I watched in March.)
Nice to hear Michael Palin on BBC 6Music. (And idiots in charge of things at the BBC want to kill this channel. There are still three weeks to have your say about this cretinous proposal.)
Too late (19:06) to be of much use, there's finally a tiny patch of pale blue sky visible out there. Having dined (and lazily left the dishes soaking) I'm going to hit the road.
