2008 — 14 December: Sunday

I'm off for an early night, so here's tonight's photo of Christa. A mere 33 years (or so) ago:

Christa in Old Windsor, May 1975

For some unaccountable reason (if my server log can be trusted), in the last 48 hours "molehole" has been scoured by someone in Italy:

Stats

But the only person I currently know in Italy is niece #1, and Big Bro emailed to say she's now safely back in NZ as I type. Very odd. One of life's little mysteries. G'night.

Bring me sunshine!

Rather than the cool, misty gruel currently malingering here at 09:52 or so.

Six miles later...

I'm back, at 14:04, from a head-clearing stroll around Sparsholt that (I hope) has done for the snuffle germs roughly what the recent cold nights have been doing to all the wasps now littering the bottom edge of the garage door. I must say, I have no more sympathy for these horrid insects than I did for Christa's cancer cells, which probably means I'd make a lousy Zen Buddhist and will in due course be re-incarnated1 as an amoeba.

What goes around...

Some while back, I idly mentioned that credit card cheques just might not be the answer to my (or anybody else's) financial woes. I've been bemusing myself this afternoon reading Money or Your Life and The New Money Text Book. They may, of course, be nothing but inspired (and, frankly, rather badly-proofread) lunacy, but are certainly interesting. Mind you, the (late) author does refer to "the wisdom given to us by Dr. Hubbard" (for example, "Money is an idea backed by confidence. This was a discovery made and given to us by L Ron Hubbard"). Now that's not what I'd call a confidence-boosting endorsement!2

On the plus side, I have found another possibility for my web site searching: KScripts. On the minus side, it needs Perl on my server. And seems to offer no automated index updating. Investigations will continue.

Good heavens, when did it become 18:01 and time for my next batch of calories? And it's now 19:31 — question is, should I watch the ITV production of The Old Curiosity Shop? It's another one I haven't read. And now, having lasted until the first ad break, another one I haven't seen. Sorry, ITV!

By way of compensation...

I decided to order the DVD on the Birmingham bombers I mentioned here, and the book about Narnia by Laura Miller I mentioned here. My wheels may sometimes grind slowly, but they get there in the end.

Good God?!

Prepare to be boggled:

The accusation that it is in some way discriminatory to attempt to counteract the prejudice and hatred which exists in over 80 countries that outlaw same sex relations would appear to be yet another example of the Vatican turning logical thinking on its head.

Well said, if a bit difficult to parse on first reading when it's getting late. Utterly amazing. Now regain your equanimity with "Mindfields".

Footnotes

1  Said re-incarnation nearly occurred a few minutes ago — rather ahead of schedule, I hope. It is really dangerous to fiddle with heater and rear wash/wiper controls while driving along in two-way traffic. It showed me that my blood sugar was too low for fully alert driving, though I've now put that right.
2  No. I'd better not get started on Scientology whose Wikipedia entry, I note, is locked against editing!
