2007 — 23 July: having a break

After all, everyone else seems to have departed for a summer holiday. Why shouldn't we? So: start the world-class pottering... Damn! My second cup of tea today, and it's also gone cold on me. Where does the time go?

More, if and when there's more! Thanks for the card from Rye,1 by the way, John & Judy. Oh, and it's been raining, is raining, and looks like more rain to come so the newly non-pondy bit of the bog garden is developing what can best be described as a mildly irritating puddle-like tendency. The pump is standing by on standby (like a lot of the rest of this sodden country, by the sound of things).

Today's scientific experiment

Having cleared it with the GP first (I hasten to add) we took the car out into Southampton (parking — hang the expense — in the expensive NCP site by West Quay to minimise her walking distance) for the gentlest of toddles to Her favourite shop (M&S) for some nice new jim-jams, while I, meanwhile, raced round town like a dervish, cancelling a long-running subscription to The Comics Journal,2 picking up a bank statement, a book of stamps, the official DSA theory test, the Highway Code, and their DVD guide to Hazard Perception.

Yes, it really is time I learned how to drive a car! Christa was delighted by the whole outing, let me also add. I was somewhat anxious. But then, if yesterday's moth went "Boo!" right now, I'd probably reach lunar orbit.
