2016 — 19 February: Friday

No Kabuki shadow play this morning.1 I'm contenting myself with "The lark, ascending" while I sup my cup and gird my loins for the 9 o'clock news bulletin in about five minutes.

Yesterday's playtime sessions as I tinkered and experimented with Xfce on the NUC have just about convinced me I now wish to migrate BlackBeast Mk III over to use that desktop manager, too.

All in good time

Today's necessary supplies run, plus a lunchtime rendezvous, plus an afternoon tea'n'biccie meeting may well eat into available PC time, of course. It looks bright, sunny, and jolly cold out there at the moment.

Longish pause

Shopping? Done
Lunch'n'chat? Enjoyed
Switchover to Xfce on BB Mk III? Painless
Today's two guitar music CD deliveries? Listened to, but not yet scanned or "logged"
Car? Cleaned up quite well in the shower
State of the unread "Spectator" magazine heap? Nicely incremented, thanks to Iris
Comments on my acquisition of "Eagle Annual: the best of the 1960s comic" in the Brambridge Garden Centre? Totally unnecessary!

Another talisman...

... starts to bite the dust. I have no idea where, or when, Christa bought the plastic tray that has been my almost constant food conveyor and eating companion for the last eight-plus years. This evening, a little chunk of it broke off just as I was picking it up to carry my simple sardine salad meal into the living room. The tray is still perfectly functional, but will now serve as another (completely unnecessary) reminder that not much lasts forever. It has a smaller sibling, of exactly the same design, on my little bedside table — its task being to contain any spillage2 from my glass of water.

How can it be 19:20 already?

Footnotes

1  Planetary rotation has made sure of that while I slumbered on.
2  Dexterity is not my most notable feature when either half-awake or concentrating on something.
