Sourly, having just noted...
... the effortless ease of producing the circumflex accent over the letter "oh" of "rôles" with an HTML character tag, I also belatedly realised last night — in the middle of drafting an email, of course — that I currently have no idea how to create such accented letters under Linux in Thunderbird email. Nor did the "preferred" ComposeKey impress me. So I tried the Character Map application:
Finding it as user-friendly as a cornered rat, stainless steel or otherwise. Then, to rub further salt in my wound, I just got an email with this story!
Donning my circumflex

I held down Shift, then pressed AltGr, then released both keys, then held down shift to type "6" where the circumflex lives. Then typed my o. And there it was!
What a palaver. I prefer the approach of the Academie Française. See how skilfully I deduced how to use the same process to get a cedilla out of a comma? Without HTML, too.

I found "Heartbreak Hotel" during a Kodi-related misadventure when attempting to disambiguate my BBC 1977 production of the GBS play "Heartbreak House". Of course, if "Texter: engelska" doesn't mean what I hope it means, I have a severe problem.

... just about be returning to consciousness on what is the morning of his Big Birthday Bash. I have joined his celebration, by proxy, pouring myself a smidgin of Junior's Kahlua over a smidgen of vanilla ice cream. Happy birthday!
