I've been trying to recall exactly how many funerals I've attended over the years.1 Today increments that number yet again. Eventually, of course, I will attend that of someone younger than me (unless I die first). I do recall dear Mama quite frequently telling me I would be late for my own funeral; she's clearly not the genetic source of whatever sense of humour I have :-)
Hadn't heard...
... this one before. Source and snippet:
Marcel Proust adored Einstein for upending our notions about how time flows and how we experience time; pity, then, that Proust couldn't make heads or tails of Einstein's algebra. Even many scientists shrugged. After crossing the Atlantic with Einstein in 1921, Chaim Weizmann, a chemist and later the first president of Israel, commented, "Einstein explained his theory to me every day, and by the time we arrived I was fully convinced that he really understands it."
I know the feeling.
I'm shocked, I tell you...
... shocked to learn that my refusal to use social networking tools puts me in the "Dark social" camp (along with 60 to 80% of people?) not that one can (or ever should) believe marketing "people":
"Dark social", you see, refers to what marketers think of any sharing that they can't watch happening because it's happening on Twitter or Facebook. "Dark" sharing means you, the actual Internet user looking at a story or video, merely tell a friend about what you're reading or viewing, without using a platform of recent invention that's more amenable to having people — marketers or spooks — running tracking algorithms over what you're sharing.
Or, as my hero and rôle model Robert Crumb might put it... keep on trackin'.
And here I am...
... again, back in time to start thinking about a bite of lunch, I guess. I must say, I really do appreciate funerals with all the religion expunged. Good music, too. Though I'm no fan of Joan Sutherland, I did successfully plant the idea of a Freddie Mercury track... We got "Barcelona".
I am trying to contain...
... the irritation I feel at the back-stabbing, and sloping shoulders, acts I am hearing about that seem to be taking place inside the political party that — more or less — has enjoyed my support for the last 40 years. So to whom do I turn next, I wonder? I have to say the Lapsang Souchong tea smoked salmon recipe created by Heston Blumenthal for my local grocer was also a bit of a disappointment this evening. A "complex yet delicate flavour"? See above re marketing "people". Still, at least it was one third off.
