2014 — 18 March: Tuesday

Today's menu includes a munch date and a certain amount of Mother Hubbard-type cupboard-filling activity. Plus, I have to post off the Power of Attorney gorp to my suspicious (or is that 'vigilant'?) Uncle ERNIE.1 Still, at least the sun is currently shining. Breakfast first, methinks.

Yesterday's books...

... weren't my only acquisitions. And while "The Spark" is certainly an interesting story, I fear its writing style is cloyingly 'folksy' given the subject matter. I also picked up three Blu-rays2 and a couple of DVDs. This trio of new titles:

BDs and DVD

And these two (damn my completeist tendencies) are replacements ...

BD and DVD

... for my original DVDs, both offering potentially-interesting "extras" — including interviews with the directors Reiner and Poliakoff. I notice, by the way, that the small print on the silly "free download" and "free streaming" offers (that flutter out of Blu-ray and DVD packages more and more often) explicitly exclude any such extras as part of the offer. But then I still don't have a clue why I would ever want to download and watch a reduced resolution, reduced quality, film on a mobile device when I can watch it on my 60" plasma.

Perhaps it's just me. I did try it once to see what (if anything) I was missing but found the whole exercise both ludicrous and futile.

Is the point...

... of the doubtless-fragrant Iain Duncan Smith that he simply has no point? Just askin'. Some of the appended comments are quite revelatory. (Link.)

Since I never...

... tended to make plans,3 even before I retired, the fact that my post-lunch activity included an unscheduled visit to Halfords to buy and have my new pal Jake there fit a replacement rear passenger side brake light didn't particularly faze me, though some of the roadworks earlier in Romsey did. No biggie. That's what motorways are for, after all.

Footnotes

1  Who, if challenged, would no doubt say "I'm only doing my job."
2  I picked up the second instalment of "Hunger Games" in Asda, on my return home, as they have a pleasing habit of discounting brand-new releases as loss-leaders. Naturally, I tend only to buy their loss-leaders.
3  Or stick to them.
