2014 — 27 January: Monday

You may recall a 1938 red Morgan being briefly visible around these parts in early 2007? Today I learned (on this equally bright, sunny morning) that Brian — its elderly and ailing gentleman1 owner — has, as my friend Peter delicately put it, become "another (old cricketer) who has left the crease".

Morgan

I assume you know the mournful Roy Harper song that applies? If not, you can find it on the 1975 album "HQ". Though I also have it on the sumptuous 5xCD boxed set "Harvest Festival". Caution: it may well bring a tear or two in its wake.

Big Bro...

... responded to my early (overnight, for him) birthday greetings. I wonder what it's like to be so ancient?
Indeed, I wonder if I'll live long enough to find out! :-)

Minor mnemonic miracle...

Despite the chilling of my brain caused, in part, by the ever-sparser hair on my scalp I actually remembered — it's probably a year since my previous such purchase — to pick up a new bottle (is a plastic bottle still a 'bottle'?) of the cheapest shampoo variant I could find among the staggering array of the stuff in Waitrose...

ingredients

On close study I note its equally staggering ingredients include salt and "aqua" — just how ill-educated do they think their customers are? The rest of the stuff probably all helps to explain why it makes my eyes sting and go bloodshot. Should you be at all curious, the hydrolyzed silk is to enhance my hair's shine!

What my banks...

... choose to think I care about often bemuses me. Today's example is from a very large global outfit based in China that (I seem to remember) was implicated in, and fined a very large sum of money for, Mexican drug cartel money-laundering in the US (though it may have been London):

Details of the changes
1. Encryption
We've removed clause 7 which dealt with the very high level of encryption we've previously relied on to provide the personal internet banking service to you. As a consequence, the clause number of each of the clauses which followed clause 7 will move forward by one number. This includes the removal of the statement that such levels of encryption could be illegal when used outside of the UK, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. We no longer need your assurance that you won't use the encryption features of internet banking illegally and so we've removed this clause. While you should never knowingly use the service in a way that breaches any law of any country, we appreciate it will be difficult for you to proactively ensure compliance with the encryption laws of foreign countries that you might travel to.

Date: Today

My emphasis, by the way. But "they're fine ones to talk" as dear Mama would have said. Before her speech circuitry became encrypted.

Following...

... tea and a biccie with Roger & Eileen the time has come for me to sort out my evening meal. The entertainment tonight is almost certainly going to be a dose or two of Series #2 of "The Bridge".

Right. I still have episodes #7 and #8 to watch but it's definitely time to switch to something slightly less nerve-racking lest I can't sleep tonight. After all, the eye needs to be bright — and the tail needs to be moderately bushy — tomorrow because I'm on another hospital "taxi" run a little before lunchtime. And again on Wednesday, if all goes well. Fingers and toes crossed, as usual.
