2013 — 1 July: Monday — rabbits!
Oh well, it's all downhill to Xmas now.1
I had no idea...
... Simon Winchester was colour blind — it thwarted his naval ambitions in 1960 — and, until minutes ago, couldn't have told you the name of what may well be the most numerous creature on the surface of the earth: Prochlorococcus. Nice essay here.
I also have little idea where I might keep, or what I might do with, a 3D printer despite support for these being baked into Windows 8.1 — I can wait. I think.
As for why Windows Defender feels the need to restart its Quick Scan for the third time... I doubt if anyone knows. What do I know? Well, I know I still have time to have some breakfast, get dressed, pack a lunch, and enjoy a walk later this morning. I just hope the pollen level has subsided since last week.
Bearable, and not too hot, though certainly humid. 44.4 miles round trip plus a 7.1 mile ramble starting at the John O'Gaunt pub in Horsebridge. No horse flies, no ticks, no blisters only one little blister, and very little mud. I'm sure it's good for us. (It had jolly well better be.) Greeted on my return by a half-yearly water bill (a mere 15 m3 this time, though only in a 152-day period) and this:
The second half of my recent "Under Milk Wood" CD acquisition spree. Nice stuff. King Crimson also recorded a track called "Starless and Bible Black". I've yet to compare them. [Pause] Vastly different! On balance, I'm going with the Stan Tracey for now. It's much more mellow.
A favourite...
... piece of Stravinsky will be starting (live) in a few minutes. Excellent.
Now that the BBC have stopped the "Radio Downloader" chap from plying his trade I'm thrown back on the BBC iPlayer until such time as they sort out their radio programme downloads (meaning, of course, until they've nailed down their DRM mechanisms). Personally, I dislike the way the world is thundering towards streaming its entertaining data hither and yon. But I can't argue that it takes up as much space as all my CDs and video disks, cassettes and minidiscs.
