2012 — 18 December: Tuesday

I was obviously tireder than I realised1 as I'm only now surfacing. Still, it's a sunny morning so far.

If the somewhat...

... snarky phrase "celebrity intellectuals" didn't exist, I wonder how long it would take to invent it? But then I may be a little biassed in favour of Jared Diamond, unlike the writer of the article here.

In earlier years, family chatter had it that the reason my favourite aunt and uncle remained childless hinged on a polio-related death that had much affected their views. I wondered what reason2 the charming Taliban in Pakistan could possibly have for killing anti-polio workers until I reached the end of the piece:

Some Islamists and Muslim preachers say the vaccine is a western plot to sterilise Muslims.

Some ¬blog writers say that religion is not a force for good.

There is...

... once again, a slightly less cavernous echo in my little cupboard of comestibles. My word, it's getting quite busy out there. People! Don'tcha just love 'em? I shall resume whatever it was that I was doing before it occurred to me that the bright and shiny condition of the afternoon was unlikely to persist for much longer. Hot cup of coffee here I come.

Next thing you know, it's pitch-black outside and time for the curtains and blinds round. Just a shame that shuts out all the flashing Xmas lights hereabouts. Or not. My, what a wonderful time of year. When does summer start?

[Pause]

As I trickle slowly towards the end of MP3s whose artists begin with the letter "F" I think — to stop myself from going madder — I'd do better to switch to some alternative employment / enjoyment for the rest of the evening. It's 21:35 and a twiddly bit.

Footnotes

1  Evidence? It's approaching 10:00 and I hit the sack before midnight.
2  If that word can be applied, that is.
