2012 — 2 October: Tuesday

My chum Zeno1 recommended Scarlatti to me. Although I've not yet done much about that, I've just listened to the sonata #380 which seemed to combine some of the rich complexity of Bach with some of the amazing simplicity of Satie. He may be on to something...

I enjoyed...

... or, at least endured, a thankfully-faded but extremely surreal dream before rolling out of bed this morning. I don't know where these things come from but I feel sure I couldn't make then up :-)

It's dull out there, but not currently (07:32) raining. On with the walk, therefore. We shall be lunching at the Pub With No Name, if that's a clue. And will set off a little earlier than usual to try to beat the next batch of windborne heavy dew.

The devil finds...

... bits for the idle retiree to download, it seems:

MP3s

So far, the only effect seems to be a slight decrease in the time needed for my daily Sudoku workout. Odd. Breakfast beckons.

I confess...

... I've done the same thing as this chap's wife (or ex-wife, if you started here [as I did] and if you believe him [which I don't]) on occasion.

Monsieur Hantaï has what can best be described as "flying fingers", by the way. Very enjoyable cascades of notes.

Had you known...

... where to look a couple of hours ago, you would have found us somewhere hereabouts...

... fairly shortly before we wrapped ourselves around a pint or two in front of a log fire. There seemed to be a great many contour lines bunched quite closely together wherever we were heading, but we dodged almost all the rain.

5,631 minutes...

... of TV watching ago (at least!) I embarked on my delightfully enjoyable journey through the saga that is "Bones".

DVD and Book

To my mild horror, the latest dollop — popped on to my doorstep while I was out wandering in the wilderness — is a mere further 13 episodes. Not enough. As for the book, I heard its author (Christopher Grey) chatting amiably and most interestingly about the 'sociology' of wartime Bletchley Park as a management organisation to Laurie Taylor last week, but decided not to risk the ghastly high price currently being asked for his book on the topic... so instead I investigated one of his earlier "reasonably cheap" works.

Trouble, right here in River City?

I've been hearing varying opinions about the extent to which 'molehole' has been up and running today. Junior tells me it was down for at least two 10-minute periods over 12 hours ago. That ties in with what I was seeing before I went out for my walk. And — since there's not a lot I can do about it, and the ISP's status blog gives no hint of trouble at t'mill — my attitude is somewhat fatalistic. Peter's been talking about wanting to move the websites he runs up into the 'cloud' and, if so, I guess that's where 'molehole' will have to end up, too. After all, I'm essentially bumming a free ride :-)

Not the biggest deal in the world, to be honest.
