2012 — 21 September: Friday

Mysteriously1 it's already ten hours into the new day. This won't do, will it? Maybe I'd better get me some of the turbo mode that I hear can be applied to the Raspberry Pi. (One of Brian's simple "first million squares" benchmarks is nearly doubled in speed though — for all I know — the clever little chip is merely remembering the 'answers' the second time around...)

Oh, to be a lad again:

Trebuchet

And, if you're going to build a radio on a PCB, why not adapt Harry Beck's venerable circuit "diagram"?

London Underground

Though I doubt the reception would be much good on the Tube. Two tips of the hat to Brian for these bits of whimsy.

Dystopias 'R U.S.

After my time in the Panem arena, I thought "why not revisit the Republic of Gilead?" So, unless my mood changes dramatically, this morning's delivery is set to become tonight's entertainment:

DVD

Screenplay by Harold Pinter? I'd actually managed to forget that in the 20-plus years that have elapsed since I last watched it.

Foody type supplies...

... gathered, I just checked with Mrs Google: the Soton boat spasm still has a couple of days to run so I shall continue to avoid the place until after the weekend. I have a walk pencilled in for tomorrow, and young relatives arriving on my doorstep on Sunday afternoon, so I expect I'll manage. Time (13:20) for a spot of lunch. Then I shall kick back with Kermode.

Apparently, if you're a guvmint chief whip, you'd better not swear at PC Plod and/or call him/her a "pleb". Golly! Well, I suppose as a story it's makes a welcome change from the saga of the vestless Duchess. The mayor of London (bless 'im) said last year that someone swearing at the police should expect to be arrested. I await developments.

Having revisited...

... the ghastly Republic of Gilead, I think I can now tuck my passport away for another 20 years or so. Good film of a truly horrible tale. Reading the comments on IMDB is an interesting experience, too. Particularly given the current fuss and bother (does he mean rioting and killing?) among our Islamic cousins.

Time for something a little less dystopian, I fancy. Tea, for example.
