2012 — 25 August: Saturday

If I needed further proof1 that this is a bank holiday weekend the (lousy) weather would be quite sufficient. So far, at least. No matter. Tea helps. As does Ry Cooder's "Boomer's story"...

CD

... though how it can possibly be 40 years old puzzles me. (This is a typical — albeit much reduced in size — example of what I do with the CD artwork, by the way. I miss 12" vinyl artwork, but not the storage problems it posed.)

Isn't it maddening...

... when you're playing your relatively recently-acquired Charles Mingus collection and — as soon as you hear the opening bars from "Moanin'" — you think where the fudge do I know that from? The answer, of course, is from the soundtrack to that lovely little caper movie "The Whole Nine Yards". Glad we got that sorted out in time for a spot of lunch. Thanks, Mrs Google.

There's an old saying...

... about the Corporate advertising (sorry, "marketing") budget. We know half of it is wasted... we just don't know which half. Here's an example, guys:

Toyota

Mind you, I was browsing around the Grauniad's motoring team opinions earlier. They seem quite keen on the Yaris Hybrid. No road tax, either. But I think there are still a few miles left in Christa's final birthday present to me. Besides, I hate that font, though at least they didn't address me as "Mrs Mounce".

That particular message eventually percolated its way into their systems :-)

My decision to remove...

... all the scans of my DVD artwork from the molehole external web server has just been vindicated. Casting my jaundiced eye over the server error logs for "Error 404" (page not found) problems has thrown up just over 970 separate attempts to access specific video titles. What's quite amusing is that I unlinked all these images just over five years ago now. I wonder what the lifespan of a bandwidth leech is these days?

It's fair to say...

I've seen many hundreds of films over the years. Today, for example, I very much enjoyed re-watching "Good Will Hunting" on my newish Blu-ray copy. But then I made a terrible mistake. Somewhere quite high on the list of other good films is "Point Blank" by John Boorman (based on the late Donald E Westlake's first novel featuring Parker, aka "The Hunter", and written under his pseudonym 'Richard Stark'). My mistake was to watch, not this, but (alas) the later travesty of this same story, featuring Mel Gibson, "Payback". It's simply awful sh1t. Dreadful.

So now I'm going to bed feeling grumpy — a line that would really be better coming from Snow White.
