2012 — 31 July: Tuesday
Well, the rain1 isn't too heavy, but certainly looks 'dug in' for the next couple of hours at least. I'm supping the cup that cheers, and contemplating the ineffable whichness of the why after a truly surreal dream. Mr Keavney has just played a "Pop will eat itself" track that I hope doesn't become an ear worm.
Always keep a'hold...
... of nurse, for fear of finding something worse. George Monbiot is on good form:
Christa always used to tell me that the 'commissars' had the easy life at the top of the systems on both sides of the Atlantic, and were equally and easily corrupted. John Brunner's 1963 story "The Totally Rich" saw this coming.
Evolution's drawbacks
I know at least one surgeon who agrees with at least one item on this list.
- Chimeric cells
- Hiccups
- Backache
- Hernias
- Choking
- Lack of fur
- Goosebumps
- Teeth v brain size
- Obesity
- Lots more...
Intelligent Design? Yeah, right. (Link.)
I was poking around...
... in the dangerously tempting nooks and crannies of Amazon's music area earlier.
Lindsay Anderson's film O Lucky Man! was the first real "date" Christa and I went on in 1974. The film began life in 1969 as an idea told by Malcolm McDowell to David Sherwin. My (1976) copy of the eventual screenplay (which also includes the Alan Price lyrics) is now falling apart. Click the pic for a snippet I typeset...
Sung during the opening credits
I bought the film when it finally became available on DVD.2 I also later bought the soundtrack album (to replace the minidisc copy of the tape I'd made from my original vinyl) when it came out on CD. Judging by the current price (£40+) on Amazon, for the most recent (2005?) re-issue of the CD, the MP3 download is now the only sensible game in town.
To cheer myself up...
... after my visit to the care home, I called in at Asda. I spurned the "Tin Tin" blu-ray for a tenner, and opted instead for these DVDs, three of which are based on books...
... though the £3 that was all they were asking for the latest remake of Jack Finney's "The Body Snatchers" probably doesn't bode very well.
