2012 — 12 July: Thursday

I've barely downed my next morning cuppa before I stub my toe1 against the beautiful opinions of the good people in Texas...

We unequivocally oppose the United States Senate's ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

It's also safe to say that they are agin gay people and critical thinking skills, though arguably they don't actually realise this.

"... but I know it when I see it..."

Buried in this interesting piece about the tapping of our unconscious ability to recognise visual features faster than we can get computers to do so (another strike against AI) is an assertion about Einstein that I hadn't seen before (and find hard to believe). It's also led me to Jonathan Moreno's "Mind Wars" though whether I need any more books is debatable, I suspect.

Later

Back from the restaurant near Rufus Stone, and having waved Big Bro off on his trip to the frozen North (before he's back here next Thursday for Round II with dear Mama2) I can turn my attention to Mr Toyota. He tells me there's now a Yaris Hybrid with my name on it, should I be interested. Actually, since driving the Prius while my door dent was fixed early last year, I am quite interested. It's a question of the 'need' versus 'want', of course. But zero road tax, low emissions, and approx 80 mpg are not unattractive parameters.

Cruel and...

... unusual punishment?

I try not to wish death or pain on anyone but as a coping mechanism may I suggest wishing all these [Internet misogynist] trolls a life of severe mediocrity? May every relationship they get into be a boring dead-end, may they lose their hair in such a pattern that shaving it down makes them look mousy, not bad-ass, may all their grandest hopes go unachieved, may their hard work go mostly unrecognized, and may they spend their final days in a crooked nursing home, abandoned by their equally-mediocre and unhappy family who got that way by their intensely middling parenting styles.

'Klamanhandle' in Jezebel

No, I don't think so.

I mentioned "retreating upstairs" last night while Big Bro watched "Haditha", followed by "Cellular" (which he enjoyed rather more, he told me). I was watching episodes from Season #1 of "Suits" on the laptop PC and enjoying them immensely. I've now ordered the DVD set. It's 21:47 and if it gets much less summery out there I think I shall decide it's autumn already. We're going to try for a walk on Sunday, but only on roads. The New Forest was extremely soggy earlier today.

Footnotes

1  The only other bit of me that can still think this early in the day.
2  For which he'd quite like me to convert and transfer some video files on to my Tablet for showing to the ol' girl. Not much point (in my opinion) but I believe one is supposed to do what one can for one's close relatives in these sort of situations.
