2012 — 24 May: Thursday

Off to a slightly less sunny start than yesterday1 though it's got plenty of time to get worse before I head up towards Basingstoke this evening for that Sandy Denny concert tribute. And plenty to busy myself with before that, too.

I note a banker is calling for the end of free personal banking. Time to stuff a jam-jar under the bed, perhaps? The interest I get on my current account is very far from being interesting. And EU leaders have promised to make "economic growth" a priority. I conclude all's still wrong with the world.

Just back...

... from a "first": the posting back to Amazon, unopened, of a duplicate DVD box-set. An exercise that they make surprisingly easy, though it will cost me £1-49 or so. That's what happens when two of your preferred suppliers both let you pre-order a title several months ahead of its release and you manage to forget that you've done so — twice. Last time that happened, the beneficiary was niece #4 with "House" season #7. There's rarely a niece handy when you want one, of course, as 75% of them are now back in NZ.

A brief inspection of Jonathan's invariably interesting shelves in the 'Arcade' book shop, a top-up of petrol, and I estimate it's now about time for an early lemonses. Or at least another cuppa. It's 10:31 and starting to warm up — 24.5C down here at the moment.

One does what one can...

... to keep Mr Postie gainfully employed. Or, at least, on his toes:

BDs and DVD

I've been giving some thought to repositioning the desk down here now that there's just one PC to contend with — the Tablet PC atop the A/V stack doesn't really count, does it?2 I'm still in search of that tricky (and often elusive) compromise between adequate cooling and acceptable living room noise level.

Count to 7,200 or so, slowly.

And I'm back online with stuff shifted around and quite a lot of dust transferred to the Dyson. I shall definitely need a shower before setting off for the unfrozen north in about an hour. I'd better allow for rush hour traffic on the A34 too, I guess.

Footnotes

1  But the allure of hot weather fades very quickly, in my opinion.
2  Besides, it's completely silent.
