2012 — 4 May: Friday

How does it keep getting so late1 without me noticing? Admittedly, I was reading, while listening, again, to the lovely freebie CD of the late Jackie Leven's stuff that "Word" magazine gave away a couple of months back. But now, I really could use some sleep.

Pushing aside...

... my sometimes not-so-cordial dislike of the administrivia of the daily domestic round, it's just occurred to me that the upcoming weekend is a 'longer' one and I'd better make sure I have enough of the fresh kind of food to stave off vitamin (and other) deficiencies in the days ahead. But I'm not going out until I've finished my cuppa, dagnabbit.

And not before my MP3 treat2 has finished downloading, for that matter. Pah! Guess who forgot to vote yesterday?

I'm not very impressed when hearing praise for the UK's hospital cleanliness campaign when it seems to consist of washing hands more (or, at all?). What's so C.-bloody-diff about something I learned to do in infant school...?

Can it get any less...

... reassuring than this?

[Major General Jonathan] Shaw, a veteran of the Falklands and Iraq wars, also said the MoD had to be prepared to embrace unconventional and "wacky" ideas if the military wanted to catch up with, and then stay ahead of, rivals in the cybersphere. Getting "kids on the street" to help the military was vital, he said.
"My generation ... we are far too old for this; it is not what we have grown up with. Our natural recourse is to reach for a pen and paper. And although we can set up structures, we really need to be on listening mode for this one."

Duck and cover!

My switched-on, but not quite joined-up, electricity and gas supplier emailed me last night for my meter readings, but the website is still apologising for being broken over 12 hours later. Tut, tut.

Still broken, another 12 hours on.

Sabotage?

Or Murphy's Law? It seems, every time I've taken Windows Media Player out for a spin (I know, I know) I end up having to re-install whatever non-Microsoft equivalent I was using before — and I mean re-install, not merely re-load and run.

Hang on! Where's the day gone? Nipped out to get some supplies. Met up with Len for a lunch and a chatter. Met up with Roger & Eileen for a delicious cherry-filled Danish, tea and a chatter. Watched this week's episode of "Castle". Contemplated visits to Chris for a dose of "Prometheus" and Ian to catch up on his Drupal woes (both next week, I presume). And next thing I know it's already 20:41 and I haven't even noted the goodies from Mr Postie.

I could do with a system.

Footnotes

1  Tonight's example: 00:52 or so.
2  Who, in their weakened morning state, could resist a set — Chronicle: 20 greatest hits — from Creedence Clearwater Revival when one of the tracks is the full 11-minute version of 'I heard it through the grapevine'? Thank you, BBC 6Music, for playing the radio-friendly version and sparking my interest. (Although this was one of the albums I rescued for my chums off that ailing network hard drive I had not yet found the round tuit needed to inspect it, and thus didn't even know this version existed — let alone on one of my own hard drives.) And I now have it at twice the bitrate, which is (of course) twice as cool.
