2012 — 16 February: Thursday
An earlyish start1 so my morning cuppa and grapefruit are being supped / chewed in the peace and calm of a pre-commuting estate. Grey sky everywhere I look, too. I have a lunch date, though that's several hours away, before which I suspect I may squeeze in another supplies foray — it's a better choice than Friday morning shopping hereabouts.
I rather enjoyed the somewhat 'fractured' style of the novel "Drive" yesterday, by the way. And he's written a follow-up. The film version made some very sensible changes to the story. It's always interesting to see how these adaptations are made, but (of course) they are not always successfully executed.
In another life, who knows? Perhaps I might choose to work on film scripts rather than computer manuals... :-)
Shelf-conscious?
Moi? I couldn't possibly comment. Source and snippet:
There are many varieties of nerd, but only two real species — the serious and the nonserious — and shelves are a pretty good indication of who is which. "To expose a bookshelf," Harvard professor Leah Price writes in Unpacking My Library, a recent collection of interviews with writers about the books they own, "is to compose a self."
Some amusing comments, not that I could possibly admit to identifying with any of them.
What did we do...
... before Amazon existed? Click the pic for more detail than may be strictly necessary:
Right. My breakfast is now (09:54) officially overdue, though the shopping was a success.
A mere 120 keypresses...
... later,2 I have succeeded in turning the new Panasonic Blu-ray player into a multi-region DVD player, courtesy of the "One For All" remote control that finally arrived in this morning's post. I have not yet decided whether to load the unofficial firmware needed to turn it into a multi-zone Blu-ray player into the bargain. No rush.
