2011 — 11 June: Saturday

The overnight warm zephyr has dried out the carpet and most of the underlay. I shall work out what to do to mop up the remaining subterreanean puddles after this morning's little stroll.1 It's a relief to stop the noise of the fan in the same way that it's a relief to stop banging your head against a brick wall.

The sky is blue, the sun is shining, and some breakfast will be the next item.

Soulful Strings

Mercy me! Brian Matthew has just played (some of) the track "Burning Spear" I mentioned a February or two ago. Will wonders never cease?

Right. Nearly time to set off. But there's still enough time for another Becker family shot from 1982:

8.1 miles later...

... and just ahead of a few spots of rain, I'm back home relaxing after a spot of lunch and a cuppa or two. I've repositioned the electric fan heater and am drowning out its noise with some loud music. Here, by the way, is the offending section of 30-year-old copper pipe.

Pipework

There is a tiny split, only visible through my little 20x magnifying lens, that tracks along a kink where the pipe was originally bent to fit. Clumsy. My worry, of course, is whether this is merely the first failure among all the domestic water pipework (I only had the heating circuit replaced last year). But the plumber seems confident (at this stage!) that it was just bad luck. Certainly the state of the inside of the pipe is far better than the state the heating pipes were in, with their toxic, corrosive sludge. (Reminder.)

It's 15:04 and very cloudy out there now. But I'm not the ones in a tent on the Isle of Wight, so why should I worry?

Aah. Make that 7.8 miles. Mike's been editing out a few glitches on the GPS tracklog. He's also sent over today's photos, including one of a trio of clowns:

Clowns

It was not the brightest of days. Indeed, he phoned a few minutes ago to tell me Winchester was enjoying a brief burst of hail. Flaming June, heh?

I managed to sponge up another small bowl full of water, and I've had the electric fan heater running, differently angled, for the bulk of the afternoon. There was a patch of underlay that was still wicking up moisture from one of the floorboards. But it's now 20:19 and I need to make some more "House" room :-)
