2011 — 31 January: Monday

Listening to the latest "Book of the Week"1 is like being battered by a torrent of precious metallic facts, including too much knowledge of a gold sculpture of Kate Moss.

It's 10:06 and there's still some frost to scrape off the car. My night was not a good one — I think the email yesterday from Christa's university chum may have upset me on some usually-buried level. These things happen.

Much restored...

... by a lovely leisurely lunchtime chat with Iris over at Brambridge. It's what friends are for. That was preceded by a brief foray into Waitrose and paying in Mr ERNIE's latest bounty bar. Mind you, there was another one waiting on my door mat when I got back. Plus this interesting-looking film from Roman Polanski:

DVD

Based, I gather, on a novel ("The Ghost") by Robert Harris who also did the screenplay with Polanski. Wonder if I'll be able to work out any possible real-world equivalents for any of the protagonists?

It's been sunny with a blue sky, but only just above freezing. So a nice large coffee, using up some of the pot of cream and a tiny tot of Scotch hits the spot. Yum.
Time: 15:53
State: warm and reasonably content :-)

Wow!

It's 20:47 and I'm in a pleasurable state of mild shock. I've just finished watching Polanski's film and all the extra bits'n'bobs on the DVD. It is quite simply a stunning piece of ensemble acting. I was struck, too, by the photography and the music (instantly recognisable to anyone familiar with "Twilight: New Moon"). By far the best of his films that I've seen. Amazing.

Very unimpressed, however, by the way my little pack of melon pieces was fermenting a mere two days past the "Best before" date. So it's a croissant and marmite for my supper tonight.
