2011 — 24 January: Monday
It's entirely possible1 that a gentle fresh-air stroll is on the cards for a bit later on.
Not before some sleep, however. G'night.
Hark! The sirens of...
... Hinton Ampner are faintly beckoning. It's a cool +3C but just about dry. Dull grey sky; the barometer's either frozen up or the pressure is still very high. Better load some breakfast. It's already 08:41. Tick tock.
The world is stranger...
... than I can believe (to paraphrase JBS Haldane):
The belief that nature is loaded with invisible spirits that live in local flora, fauna, and environmental landmarks is generally characterized by Westerners as "primitive" and highly irrational. Even religious devotees of monotheism in the developed West look down their noses at animism. Animism is the Rodney Dangerfield of religions. But most of the world is made up of animists. The West is naïve when it imagines that the major options are monotheistic.
Glad we've sorted that out.2 Having prayed to the god of the packed lunch sandwich, to stop the cheese from falling out, I shall stop briefly in the Temple of Cloaca, and then set off :-)
Somewhat muddied...
... the elderly tramp returns, 6.8 miles or so later, just in time to blag a cuppa over the road. Such good timing. I shall leave the washing machine doing its thing (which, this week, will probably be turning everything a pale shade of pink to match my fetching new Matalan Xmas boxer shorts present to myself).
It's 14:32 and, just briefly, we spotted a tiny patch of blue sky earlier.
Laughter in the US Supreme Court
Amazing what can be the topic of research, isn't it?
I got there, as it were, from here.
Life of Brian... in Totnes?
My camera-kite flying chum predicted I would find this funny.
I did.
Later
Having watched the first two episodes of the US TV series "Spartacus" I've been enjoying (again) the first of the two CDs in that final Charlie Gillett compilation (in fact, I still haven't got to the second CD yet). But I'm starting to yawn... I also note that hanging washed shirts (not pink, thankfully) above the radiator in the hall speeds up their drying very usefully.
