2010 — 7 October: Thursday

Another irritating thing about toothache1 is the way it stops either en route to the dentist or as you settle into what would, in other circumstances, be a very comfy chair when you are summoned from the waiting area.

Judging by the condensation on parts of the living room window, it was rather cool out there last night. But it's quite a bright start at 07:53 as I cautiously sup my cuppa. The moisture covering the car's see-through bits was perilously close to being solid. The porch thermometer reckons it's 7C. I reckon it's time for some breakfast.

Some people lead...

... far more interesting lives than me. I was blissfully unaware of this chap:

Expert

Comfortably numb

The troublesome tooth (which did, indeed, stop hurting by the time I sat in the chair) has had an elderly side filling and its root drilled out (to a faintly boggling 23mm or more), the abscess causing the trouble has been cleaned out, and the whole shooting match is currently packed with antiseptic paste that's been sealed in. Round two is in a fortnight. The temperature sensitivity is already a thing of the past. I will know more about the pressure sensitivity when the numbness wears off. Such good fun. So I shall take it out for a test run during lunch with Len in half an hour or so.

A strange play indeed. Time to put the kettle on.

My "usual" post Dr Fang...

... session reward was, for many years, a trip to Jonathan's Arcade Books. However, the last thing I currently need in my life is any more books, so I've settled for a relaxing afternoon slaving over a hot scanner. I note I've yet to receive any email capitulation from Mr Staples but, being an occasionally bloody-minded pensioner with right on my side, how can I lose? KBO.

Can you believe it? UK interest rates have now been 0.5% for 19 months. No wonder none of my little heaps of "savings" are generating anything to write home about! But why couldn't we have had some of this level of interest during my quarter century of financial pain in thrall to the scam that is a mortgage? What a strange system. (Source.)

Later

One of the problems with going through the CDs, scanning the artwork, and moving them from one database to another is the ever-present temptation to stop and play the things. I suppose that's what they're for, after all, but it does rather slow things down. But it's now 20:52, I've a fresh pile of CD artwork to scan, and I need a break. So it's back to that well-regarded law firm of Crane, Poole & Schmidt...

Later still

Now why, do you suppose, it had never previously occurred to me that the vocalist on Jean-Michel Jarre's compelling 1984 album "Zoolook", track "Diva", couldn't really be anyone but Laurie Anderson? It's a long time since I last listened to this.
