2010 — 20 August: Friday
How can it possibly be Friday?1 We've just had a (low frequency) street sweeping van round that amply demonstrated the concept of powerful deep bass from a subwoofer...
A cuppa, some breakfast, remove a variety of trip hazards, and a quick whizz round with a duster — I have visitors for afternoon tea.
I'm no Tati fan(atic)...
... but Christa and I both enjoyed Chomet's "Belleville Rendezvous" so I shall look out for this. And I really do need to get the round tuit I need for watching the 2006 film of the same name.
Remind me not to commit any nasty crimes while I'm anywhere that's subject to sharia law. I might end up in hospital, and not in a good way. A reverse twist on "health tourism", indeed. (Source.)
This is called "research"? For some reason, it reminds me of the Mel Calman cartoon showing a deity standing proudly beside a newly-created planet Earth and a voice from the clouds asking "For this, you expect a Ph.D?"
Having gathered...
... some goodies for the afternoon treat, and exchanged quick greetings with Alan D in Waitrose (he's now got an IBM-related consultancy gig in the south of France, and doesn't seem to miss Hursley any more than I do), I seem to have nothing stopping me from assembling the next bookcase. Except my natural inclination towards sloth, of course. How about a cuppa? Good idea! It's 11:23 and grey and drizzly out there.
Waning powers
Even the guvmint page that "they" update weekly is falling behind. Thanks, Nick.
No refund is available should either donor or attorney die before registration is complete. No refund is available should the application be invalid or imperfect.
Nice business model.
Very occasionally...
... the long (transatlantic) arm of Amazon's marketing division, when tapping me on the virtual shoulder to say "We think you might like such-and-such," actually hits on an item I might indeed like2...
I first encountered the work of Allen Jones in a weekend colour supplement or two a little before the release of Kubrick's "A clockwork orange" which (unless my memory is emulating dear Mama) features some of his 3D "furniture" pieces. I leave further research to others.
The second bookcase now sits alongside its sibling. I've yet to hear a dickie bird from Staples about their replacement plans for the broken pack. And I shall now start preparing for my visitors. It's 14:51 and still rather grey out there.
