2009 — 15 December: Tuesday

A pleasant evening filled with some old Seinfeld episodes. I like to watch the little 'extras' where the writers and producers chip in with their memories. It's abundantly clear that many of the situations derived from real incidents in the life of Larry David — a man capable of developing situations of acute social embarrassment. Wonderful stuff.

But it's quite long gone midnight, and the yawns are now out in force. G'night.

The twisted logic...

... of large-scale economics:

If we have learned anything over the last couple of years, it is that banks that are too big to fail pose too much of a risk to the economy. Any serious effort to reform the financial system must ensure that no such banks exist.

Another moist, grey start to the day. It's 09:21 and I need a light on. Yuk. I'm catching up on the first episode of "Dear Granny Smith" by "Roy Mayall" ahead of part 2 in a few minutes. JIT listening, heh?

It's a little ironic to be listening to stories of snail mail while composing 'seasonal' greetings to a variety of folk to be sent electronically. Progress of a sort.

What fun! Calculate your own personal inflation index. The perfect1 Xmas pastime.

Another such is scanning the Times list of 100 worst movies of 2009 out of morbid curiosity. I own DVD/Blu-rays of three of them, after all, and enjoyed one of those. Then there's the sport of carrying round mis-directed Xmas cards to my neighbour.

It's 12:57 and still vaguely unpleasant out there.

Two years ago!

My first 2,500 miles got me as far as my driving test. Today, my permitted "margin of error" leaps from six to twelve penalty points as I've now been driving solo for two years. And only one parking ticket in that time, too. Plus four tyres. Wonder what Christa would say? I'm sure she'd smile.

Christa, 1977

It was, after all, her usual reaction.

Later

Cold? Yep. Dark? Yep. Summer has icumen'd out! Time (19:02) I made a bite to eat, too. Brrr.

Footnote

1  (From the FAQ): simplification does mean that the personal inflation figure is less precise than it would be if more detail were provided. No! Really?
