2008 — 17 November: Monday
00:51 already. How does that work, then? Well, start by watching the extended repeat of the Graham Norton show with that amazingly quick-witted chap, Robin Williams, and the time flies by. So to tonight's picture:
Christa and Peter at the seaside
I hope to report on an adventure later today. Watch this space, as it were. G'night.
How long, oh Lord, how long?
I've yet to touch base with today's adventurous co-conspirator — his splendid bungalow looks a bit quiet and his PC doesn't seem to be on yet — so I'm stocking up on breakfast in hopes. Meanwhile, a one-touch fix to a mild colour cast on a photo that arrived overnight serves for entertainment. Us poor retired folk have to take, as it were, what we can get. It's 09:37 and not actually raining.
Back (at 11:33) from adventure, phase I, and about to embark on phase II. And now (at 15:57) back from phase II and relaxing over the day's snailmail with a cuppa, idly contemplating my next move. I don't think I shall attend the service for Sir Edwin Nixon, for example, as I never actually met the gentleman.
Asides to Christa
I was just walking back past what was "our" post office and observe they're knocking it and the next door unit (our one-time video rental place) into one entity, purpose as yet unknown. I'd just snail-mailed one of your lovely "thinking of you" notes to Judy as it's four weeks since her op to remove an early variant of what you had. Loathsomely ubiquitous disease! Then I got back to find an email from honorary grandmother Val, ...
... replied to that, and have just finished a lovely phone chatter with her. Barbara (the vicar's wife) has remarried. Suddenly it's time (17:58) to start some serious thinking about an evening meal. And I haven't even unpacked the results of phase I of this day's adventure... Let alone described today's windowsill "fallout".
Crockpotted history
Right, that's better! So, first the windowsill detritus, as mentioned here:
Rather than buy my third KVM switch to replace yesterday's failed one, I've bitten the bullet (adventure, phase I) and bought another 24" screen to sit alongside my original Dell screen. (Thank you for the detour back from Novatech, Peter!) I figure, at the rate these KVM switches are failing on me, and the rate at which TFT screen prices are dropping, it's probably more economical in the long run. So with that, and a new keyboard, and a new mouse, I can set to work on rewiring and re-arranging things around here.
Whether I will get this done before Niall Ferguson gets going with his history of money (Channel 4, 8 pm) is very unlikely, as it's already 19:16 and I've yet to upload and inspect the several dozen photos I took, in and around Pagham Harbour near Chichester and Hayling Island, of a cormorant, a distant egret, a brace of swans, and a few teasels and berries (adventure, phase II). (Thank you for the lunch in The New Inn, Langstone, Peter! My turn again next time.) Besides, I'm way overdue another cuppa first. And there's a profile of Studs Terkel, too.
Off the air...
Necessarily, while I have the rewiring to do, as it were. It's 22:00; wonder if I'll finish before midnight?
