2007 — 14 October: Happy (56th) Birthday to Me!

My birthday present from Christa1 was, I'm delighted to report, a relatively good night's sleep with just one upchuck (02:30 or thereabouts) and the news that She is now feeling much better so far this morning. As the other end of her I/O system seems to be behaving itself, brekkie and an almost "normal" régime of meds is onboard as of 10:22 and I've just snatched a bite myself.

Mama rang literally two minutes after consciousness arrived (08:30 or so) not to say "Happy Birthday" (which she'd totally forgotten of course) but to assure me that Big Bro had had a nice big cooked breakfast and was now on his way back to the airport, and thence to Boston and Dallas. "How nice it was" she said "to have one of you with me." Yes, well, things are a bit tricky down here with the ol' 24/7 medicare thing you know, Mum! "Yes, they must be. What's the weather like?!"

Lovely card from the bungalow opposite, thanks! And from Len. I think Junior forgot, too, but he's got plenty of more important things occupying his attention at the moment so (as with all parents, I expect) he's already been unconditionally forgiven. But teased a little first, of course.

Lunchtime bulletin

Mama has been rung back. Junior has rung and been rung. Big Bro has been rung and has rung. Must tease him about the way the NZ rugby team are cutting back on their carbon footprint by dropping off the Australian players on their way back home...

A light lunch of chicken breast, spuds, beans, carrots and gravy with a pud of yoghurt is currently in Her tum. Let's all hope it behaves itself.

Evening update

Well, lunch stayed down, as has a light evening tea, so far. She's now watching Antiques Roadshow of course, while I do whatever it is that I do whenever I'm not doing something else. Although She's not vomited since the early hours, She still feels bloated and nauseous so I shall request a GP to visit if possible tomorrow. There may be some further med-tweaking we can do. I must say this has been a miserable birthday weekend, alas, despite visitors and the nice cards. We cannot recommend this health situation to anybody, believe us.
